Challenge Week July 2026

Welcome to Challenge Week!

For this challenge, you set yourself a word count goal that is a real effort for you. The original writers wanted to see if they could get 50,000 words - a Toam - in a week. Now, people routinely write much more - and much less.
You can participate as individuals or in teams. The individual or team goal must be a minimum total of 50,000 words. Participation in the challenge is completely optional - this is just for those who want to give themselves an extra boost.

This Challenge Week begins as soon as the First Results Stream ends (which is on Saturday, July 11, in most time zones), and ends when the Second Results Stream is scheduled to start (Saturday, July 18, 8:30pm UTC).

The Lore!

Nobody is quite sure how it started. Some think it was just magic acting up again. Others have the theory of an experiment gone wrong. But however it started, the Trope Plague is spreading fast.
Literomancers all over the world find themselves caught in unusual behaviour patterns even more like the literary tropes they associate with. Some catkin bought maiden dresses, the Mom of your friendgroup started to carry a whole bag of “what you might need”, the amount of dramatically dropped cups has increased by 3000%. And though it might be entertaining to watch, since a lot of literomancers are also involved in official government affairs, we are raising literomantic batteries to support the search for a cure. Join us!
What’s going on: The trope plague forces the literomancers to act like certain tropes from all kinds of entertainment media. Which trope and how it is shown depends entirely on the person, but just like the filking plague, it’s highly contagious!

Things to Note

Your character does not have to come down with the Trope Plague–participation in the lore itself is entirely voluntary.

You still enter your words for your House like normal, but you must track your progress for the Challenge yourself.

It is your team that pledges a total, even if you are a team of one. The members of the team must cumulatively reach the goal, so if individuals in the team are struggling, the rest of the team may cover them to reach the overall total words pledged.

The maximum number of team members is 8.
