Definition
When a writer reaches 100,000 words in a event, they are considered a Power Writer. We celebrate their amazing accomplishments!
At the same time, we also want to balance things out a bit between our power writers and our regular writers, while still allowing our power writers to contribute meaningfully to the game. This is the compromise we reached with counsel from some of our power writers.
POWER WRITER RULES
When a writer reaches these milestones (for their writing in the current event), please apply the following weighting to your words. This is on the honor system and you will need to track and calculate this. The bot is not currently able to calculate for you.
After 100,000 Words
multiply your new words by .75 (or multiply by 3 and divide by 4)
After 250,000 Words
multiply your new words by .5 (or divide by 2)
After 500,000 Words
multiply your new words by .25 (or divide by 4)
"Double Power Writers"
Due to the prevalence of AI, combined with the inevitable concerns about cheating that highly productive power writers often face, we have instituted a new rule (October 2026).
Anyone who has written 200K or more words in a month, or thinks they will, must do a qualifying verification run with us. Any Power Writer (100K words in a month or more) or any Organizer or member of the mod team, may also request a verification run if they wish to. The rules for this are as follows:
Two adjudicators will observe the participant writing live.
These adjudicators will be among the House Leadership of any two Houses, other than the House that the observed player belongs to.
Said adjudicators will volunteer, and may not be selected or requested by the player.
The adjudicators must be present to observe the run, but no one else has to be.
This qualifying run will last for 30 minutes, to try to give the best balance to sprinters and persistence writers.
The player must show their writing live and in action. The adjudicators must be able to see their screen and hear their voice while they work.
The player may choose to use any method that counts as Werds by Game of Tomes rules. They may type and click or use VTT software.
Editors will be provided a piece of text to edit blind by the adjudicators.
The player must use a software that actively counts their words, such as 4theWords, Word, World Anvil, etc.
The adjudicators will also need to see any notes that the player is working from, such as their plot outline, reference documents, videos, playlists, etc.
The adjudicators do not care about the nature of the player's content, spelling, grammar, or anything else. If the player intends to write something that may be triggering, we ask that you notify us so that the adjudicators who volunteer feel they can handle it.
This qualifying run only ever has to be done once per player. It will not have to be repeated every event. However, the Organizers may request another verification if they feel it is necessary. This is up to their discretion, but sample reasons for such a request might include: the player did their verification with drafting but their score for the month is entirely based on editing, the player shows a sudden dramatic increase in their typical word count score, the player puts in a larger-than-permitted redeem, etc.
Any player we identify who writes in this category will be asked to do this as soon as we have identified that their score would be the 200k range.
Failure to comply will mean that the player will be disqualified. This disqualification will stand until the player complies, through multiple events if necessary.
If the player fails to achieve a count that would support their numbers, they may try again a second time.
A record of the results will be kept by the Organizers for future reference and verification purposes.
Players who have been subjected to this test, and had their numbers confirmed, will receive, and be noted on their character page, by the "True Werdz" badge.
