Elixir of the Sovereign Deep
The Elixir of the Sovereign Deep is a restricted alchemical construct jointly safeguarded by the Asteri and House Mollusca. It is not a public artifact or a ceremonial tonic. Nor is it a remedy intended for general use. The elixir exists for one purpose: to grant temporary operational dominion within trench-depth conditions while preserving the drinker’s stability against abyssal influence.
Unauthorized duplication, dissemination, or discussion outside sanctioned Asteri channels is considered a breach of deep-law and will be treated as deliberate endangerment of Zafforza territory and its people. Though Anassa JaySeaBoom has recently opened up research on the ingredients and the elixir in hopes of increasing its good effects and decreasing or eliminating the side effects.

History
THIS SECTION HAS BEEN REDACTED BY THE MOLLUSCA PROTECTORATE FOR SECURITY REASONS BY ORDER OF THE ASTERI.
FOR OFFICIAL EYES ONLY
The Elixir of the Sovereign Deep was not created as a curiosity or as a ceremonial relic. It was engineered as a survival measure during House Mollusca’s earliest trench expansion, when Zafforza’s first deep foundations revealed a truth the surface never had to learn: pressure is not merely physical. At that depth, the sea exerts influence on balance, memory, and will. Early logs record panic-lapses, missing time, compulsions to descend, and personnel returning from the lower tunnels with their thoughts “smoothed,” as if something had pressed fingerprints out of their minds. The Asteri classified these incidents as Abyssal Influence Events, and sanctioned an alchemical countermeasure intended to grant temporary dominion over trench conditions while preserving the drinker’s identity.
The first stable formula bound trench-resilience to emotional anchoring: inkblossom petals, pearl sediment dust, jellyfish bloom resin, abyssal anemone milk, and restricted reagents, most notably grief-salt, combined into a draught that could not simply harden the body, but stabilize the self. In controlled doses, the elixir allowed deep-trench movement without pressure-crush, resisted abyssal suggestion, and briefly amplified literomancy so written spells became faster, stronger, and more stable. The Asteri also recorded secondary tactical effects: reduced fear responses and intermittent disruption of undead spellcasting, likely due to the elixir’s ability to bind memory into force. However, the same property created its most dangerous flaw: if the drinker’s emotional anchors failed through grief, panic, or psychic fracture, the elixir could rebound into magical feedback.
Within two centuries of its adoption, the Asteri observed the long-term consequences of repeated use: emotional flattening, memory-echo dreams, salt-crystal tears, and a slow drift toward depth attunement, a state in which the drinker became increasingly drawn to the trench and the entities that lingered there. The Asteri responded with absolute secrecy, establishing lock-and-key control over ingredients, formula, and distribution. The elixir is now produced only in sanctioned quantities, its recipe fragmented across sealed texts, its brewing treated as both ritual and containment. The final note appended to the master ledger is recopied into every authorized brewing record, unchanged for generations:

Aster Prime’s sealed note (translated):
The elixir does not make a sovereign.
It teaches the body what it means to be ruled.
Significance
The Elixir of the Sovereign Deep grants the drinker temporary dominion over:
- Deep-sea pressure and environment
- Resistance to abyssal influence
- Literomantic amplification (the ability to cast for just a little bit loner)
- Emotional stabilization under supernatural influence (limited effect which is dependent the supernatural being)
Major Effects
For a limited time, the drinker:- Cannot be magically drowned or pressure-crushed
- Can move freely in trench-depth conditions
- Gains instinctive current navigation
- Written magic becomes stronger
- Literomancy can affect larger areas
- Reduced fear effects
- Can lessen the impact of Undead spells
The elixir binds the strongest emotional memories into power. As long as the drinker has strong emotional anchors, the effects stabilizes. BUT if the drinker is emotionally shattered, there is a major risk of magical feedback.
Side Effects
When the elixir wears off, drinks experience:- Temporary emotional numbness
- Memory echo dreams
- Salt crystallization tears
- Becoming partially "depth attuned"
- Loss of surface emotional range
- Attraction to deep entities
Note: When made, the amount of each ingredient effects the strength and efficacy of the final product.
Using this elixir more than once in a lunar month will cause critical magic drain when the potion wears off.
