Book 1 of The GODSEND Series

My story does not begin with me. I was a catalyst to bring them together; the clay mage and the shadow, the stranger and the deity. Each of them with a secret as large as my own, each of us with so very much to lose. The world I was born to does not forgive sacrilege; I never feared death because I knew how much worse the punishment for heresy could be.
  My home world contains what we called Gates, doorways to alien realms where the church's chosen are sent in hopes of gaining the powers of magic. When I destroyed one of those gateways I set in motion the carefully constructed plans of the gods.
  We mortals pretend the gods are on our side. The truth, as I have come to understand it, is that gods only meddle in mortal affairs when they need us. I thought I knew what the gods wanted from me, I thought I knew what it would cost me. The reality was so much worse than I had the capacity to imagine.
