James Woodwright

Trigger Warning: Self-Harm (Location mentioned, no pictures) and Abuse (Physical and Emotional Abuse Mentioned, no pictures)

Captain James Richard Anthony Woodwright, LSV (a.k.a. Woodwright)

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

James is a healthy person in his late '20s to early '30s.

Facial Features

James even for his age has a concerned wrinkle from all the times he couldn't stop things happening at the hands of his parents.

Identifying Characteristics

James has unkempt hair as well as a beard which James allows to grow. James shaves his beard infrequently which is considered odd by others. Infrequently, meaning not regularly enough and often irregularly.

Physical Quirks

James has calluses on his right index finger where he has bitten his finger in an attempt to relieve tension or anxiety. Commonly he may have bite marks or bruises on his lower left arm, near his wrist. To James, this is to distract his brain to be concerned about something else when he has thoughts he doesn't want to have. He inflicts this pain on himself by biting himself.   James prefers to use his left hand to write and to use a longsword. He can eat using a knife and fork in either hand but prefers to use a dagger in his right.

Special Abilities

James has the ability to learn at his own pace and learns more than others would. He prefers to check within House Lapin's Library to check his assumptions to make sure he is right, the only exception is in finding the The Iron Tome in Season 1.

Apparel & Accessories

James is often wearing his House Lapin uniform, of a pink military jumper, pink shirt (of the same colour), cargo trousers and brown steel-capped boots. His jumper has a silver arrow pointing up denoting his rank and one of his prized achievements. While in Season 2 his uniform changed to reflect a change of rank. As James became the Captain of the Owsla, James received a rabbit pin to distinguish him from other members of the Owsla   He is required to wear this whether or not he is on the duty of House Lapin or not. James doesn't mind this, what he does mind, is not being able to wear the symbol of his country, Canada.   He has kept the Molluscan uniform he was given in Season 1.

Specialised Equipment

James has a Damascus steel longsword called Tiger, in High Common. It is called Tiger because of the stripes it has along its blade. His dagger doesn't have a name. As he is Autistic he prefers simpler technology, such as pocket watch and dumb phone, where smart devices would be used by others.

Mental Characteristics

Personal History

James was born in Calgary, much later on his parents moved to Kelowna, at the time James was an infant. James grew up in British Columbia. He lived with his parents. He was abused by both of his parents and later in life became a Redsmith.   It is seen in, Season 2: James' Story, that he worked as an employee at a Redsmith’s and saved money to buy a home rather than, buying new clothes. Upon buying the home, James gets planning permission to turn the under gardens of the home into a workshop.   As a Redsmith, owning a smithy, he made copper items for House Lapin. In 2020, James saw an opportunity to enlist as part of House Lapin during Season 1.   The ideas behind this were that he wanted to be part of something more. Secondly, he wanted to defend his community against the Undead Hoard something he couldn't do as a Redsmith. Lastly, he wanted the story of his life to be more heroic and not to be the story that he was abused and did nothing with his life.   At the end of Season 1 he felt he achieved the goal of "defend his community against the Undead Horde" so instead of leaving House Lapin he wanted to become a corporal in House Lapin something that ultimately didn't happen as he became the Captain of the Owsla, a position he was appointed to for his undying devotion to House Lapin and to The Chief Rabbit, which he proved when he saved Sable's life during the First Word War.

Education

James is educated enough to be a Redsmith. He is curious and likes to find things out and likes to read. He has intuitions with things not expected of a Redsmith.   This is due to the fact that James was abused and wanted to be part of the community rather than being a recluse and therefore became book smarts and from which, he gained his street smarts.

Employment

James first employment placement was at the Redsmiths, he became gifted in his trade and from that he started his own Redsmithy. The competition nearby lost business as they fired their workforce, James employed them, so he was not working on his own. He has a team of three.   When the Undead hoard threatened the Living, James enlisted as a recruit for House Lapin. Nothing is known of his redsmithy as his staff died during the war and were not returned to life by The Iron Tome, his home which is above his redsmithy is still in James' name.

Season 1

At the end of Season 1. James proves himself to Sable Aradia. She gives James the option to become one of her Elite Guards. James chooses not to become one and Sable allows the option to change his mind.
Sable: [Addressing James] I should make you one of my personal elite guards [James looks stunned to be given this honour] as you helped us to continue fighting.
James: Thank you, ma’am, but I feel I would not be up to the role and would like to be given the honour later.
Sable: As you wish when you feel able, come back to me for your new role.
James in fact gets his time-related promotion. As James has been working for House Lapin for at least 2 and a half years, he gets a promotion from Recruit to Private.

Season 2

When coming back from his duties as a Private getting Sealing wax, he saw that Sable Aradia was concerned about how House Lapin would hold up if another war happened. This was because a minor house, House Incendium, deserted House Lapin for a number of weeks.   Feeling responsible for the future of House Lapin and Sable Aradia's safety, he decided to write to Sable Aradia about the role he declined in Season 1. As he was the first to ask to protect Sable Aradia and without hesitation he was given the position and rank of the Captain of the Owsla.
Redsmith’s
James’ Redsmith’s produces copper items for the people of Kelowna and the surrounding area, including repairs.

Accomplishments & Achievements

James's main achievements are that he managed to work out where the Iron Tome was in Season 1 . This other achievement, from his Literomancy classes, managed to enchant a Brass Gear to protect him and other members of House Lapin.   A lesser accomplishment is to be able to make an Amulet of Heat, in the same class. Which proves helpful to James, in Season 1.   In Season 2 James got his were powers, in which Sable Aradia scared his lower right arm with runes, but the ritual failed so instead of turning into a Wererabbit, as would any enlisting member of House Lapin, he turned into a tiger. James not seeing this as a failure as it was his fault that the ritual failing due to him not staying still, saw this as a good thing and finds it good to sometimes sleep in his tiger form. Just in case House Lapin needs to be protected in the middle of the night.   In Hammer and Tongs, after seven years, James reopens his Redsmith’s and employing Hunter to run the Redsmith’s for him, while he is on duty as an Owsla member.   While in Revelstock James helped the people there, by killing Mountain Lions who seemed to be more courageous than normal.

Failures & Embarrassments

James alignments range from Neutral Good to Chaotic Good. While he is happy to follow orders from his superiors, if left to his own devices and a civilian annoys James, he is likely to behave as his Chaotic Good alignment allows.   During Season 2, and having to deal with Alistair, his weapons trainer, in the previous Season, he decided to get his own back. As he chooses who the weapon trainers and Literomancy lecturers would be training he asked a member of House Lapin to inform, Matthew, John and Alistair to collect their list of charges but not to tell Alistair who he is meant to see just the rank of the person.   Upon realising that the person he was reporting to was previously below his rank and now outranked him, this annoyed Alister. As a result, James put Alister in his place, but by using the turning the tables tactic by saying that he fought alongside Sable Aradia on the front lines and helped her while Alister was drafted into The Undead Horde 2020, when House Lapin fell.   James will add to his list of responsibilities and would struggle first before delegating to others. As part of the Owsla, James finds it hard to give work to those who are new and therefore gives paperwork and other duties, other than desk duties those who are already existing within the Owsla.

Mental Trauma

He was Physically and Emotional abused by his father and neglected emotionally by his mother. As he was abused he has taught himself how to be part of the community and as a result has learned High Common.   In Season 2, when Kajetan Writes becomes comatose and needed a "replacement" so that Sable Aradia's protection to be ensured. He was sadden by the injury of Kajetan Writes as it meant training someone new that he did not pick as it was voluntary. When Gwenefre volunteered, James was open to training her if a little sad to letting Kajetan Writes go.   From his experiences in the Blacksmithing James Timeline, he still has ill feelings about some members of other houses, who mistreated refugees, even though it is suspected to be an aborted timeline, and the member would not know, James has ill-feelings toward them.

Intellectual Characteristics

James has knowledge that would not be obvious to others as others see him as a returning Redsmith. These topics are Politics, Theoretical History and Ethical Philosophy.

Morality & Philosophy

James sees people as untrustworthy unless he can snitch on a person who is at a higher rank than them. James prefers to be nice at first and then if the point is not taken he will take the point too far. James cares for the people of Kelowna even if they see him less favourably, being a member of House Lapin.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

James motivation derives from him being a communitarian. He will help others unless they are annoying or obnoxious. Unless he is duty-bound to help.

Social

Family Ties

James's parents are both dead, it is suspected that he is either an only child or that he was the youngest, of siblings he doesn't know about who had left home, by the time James had a living memory.

Kindar

In Season 2, Kindar, joins House Lapin because his nephew, James Woodwright, is also. Kindar recognises James’ name from an invoice from his printing business. In the filler story, The Two Tigers, they finally meet.
It seems for some reason the Bunny House is getting all the tigers!
