Badger Scout Corps

They are the brave young badgers who scout ahead in wartime, detect The Undead Horde, set traps to protect The Den, and help the evacuation effort if it's needed.   Most of the contingent are still considered cubs. But when war arrives, it doesn't discriminate between the young and adults. So we train our little ones to stay hidden and notify our leaders of the Horde's movements in House Meles territory.   Scouts pair up with an adult Melesian of their choosing, called their dyr kin. The Scout's partner is responsible for their safety and for ensuring the Scout attends training. (Young badgers tend to have one-track minds and short attention spans. So, having a friend attend with them and remind them of what they need to do is a big help!)

About the Scouts

Motivation

They're very driven if you bribe them with donuts. The older ones remember the times when Zombies took over the Den and are keen to prevent it from happening ever again. You'll hear deep growls from the young veterans when anyone mentions the undead.

Training

Consists of heading to the training course to practice. The following are known skills.
  • Ensure the Scout can gear up and wear their helmet. (This is not a natural thing for cubs.)
  • Scent training to identify the various types of undead nearby.
  • Digging to hide, escape, and lay traps
  • Practicing speedy retreats
  • Crawling through dense underbrush where the Undead have a hard time going through
  • Sneaking practice
  • Trap creation
  •   Knowledge of some training aspects are not released to the public and not in the list below. Rumor has it that those secret skills involve Glitter...   Badger Scouts must adapt, because the nature of the Horde changes every Word War. New undead types may appear, the Horde's leader—the Night Monarch—seems to be different each year, and the Horde's tactics change with the Night Monarch in charge.   See the following training guide.

    Recruitment

All young badgers and badger kith are recruited into the Scout Corps. War arrives every November, and House Meles does not let its guard down.

    History

Badger Scouts were first trained in Word War I as evacuation helpers, but not utilized as scouts until the Second Word War.
