Challenge Week November 2026

 

Welcome to Challenge Week!

It's our tradition in November to start right out the gate with a push for as many words as we can get, while the living are at their strongest and the undead at their weakest. This is how Challenge Week was born.
 
  The original participants pledged 50k in a week, but you don't have to pledge that - pledge a reasonable, but deeply challenging, goal for yourself and work to achieve it.
 
 

HOW IT WORKS

While we call it "Challenge Week," it's not really a "week." Challenge starts midnight in Hawaii time (that way, all timezones can participate from challenge start) and ends at the first cutoff (11:59PM UTC Nov 6).
 

• You may write as an individual, or as part of a team.
• Individual challengers and teams must pledge to write 50k words or more, in honour of the first challengers.
• Teams will determine a group goal to achieve collectively - what any individual writer does or does not do doesn't matter, it's whether the team, collectively, achieves the goal or not.
• Teams may include up to 8 people (the Power of Eight!)

 

THE STAKES

Failure

Failure brings consequences.

• If you fail, you will be more vulnerable to becoming undead! Your name will be put on a second Wheel of Misfortune, which will be spun independently of the first House Fall's Wheel.
• If the team fails, all members of the team get put on the Wheel, regardless of individual success or failure.
• One player per every 5 names on this second Wheel will be drafted into the Undead Horde.

 

Success

Success brings glory and benefits.

• If you succeed, Queen Sable has organized a Literomantic ritual that will allow you to use a signature Vivimancy ability - El-Ahrairah's Gift.
• In other words, if you as an individual, or you as a team, succeed, you will have the right to offer your life for the life of someone else!
• If the team succeeds, all members of the team will each have the right to use this benefit, regardless of individual success or failure.
• Each player may use this benefit once during the course of this November's event. It may be declared at any time, for anyone, even at the moment the Wheel chooses them. It may not be used retroactively.
• And yes, that means that if someone sacrifices themself, and you choose to sacrifice yourself for them in turn, that is allowed. However, both sacrifices are expended.
• Bodyguards work normally
• Choosing to sacrifice yourself is an instant kill. You join the Horde. It's not another spin.

 

Great Reward for Great Risk

But don't be so hasty! You see, there is another risk at play.
  If you choose to participate in the challenge, you attract the notice of the Night Monarch.
  By participating in this challenge, you accept this risk.
  It's going to be chaos... and I'm here for it!
  You may sign up for the challenge at any time up through the first 24 hours... but you won't get any extra time to write if you don't start right out the gate.
 

Reporting

The person who reports your results must have their form submitted by 8 AM UTC on November 7th, so there is time to consider results before the first Wheel is spun. That is 8 hours after the first cutoff.
