Crafting the concoction

The production of the Dragon's Essence took some time and mainly consisted of counter poisons obtained from the earth, shells, and ground Yokeweelspider webs to counteract the deadly effect of a dragon liver. As well as berries, flowers, and barks that were boiled in a special seahorse oil to enhance its healing effect.

For a day, the princess was unable to keep anything down and to avoid dehydration, she received regular enemas so that some fluid could be administered. The princess also received half of the Dragon's Essence this way. The apothecary then wanted to wait to see if Fionsrah would awaken.

When Fionsrah regained her senses after 21 hours, she was no longer on the tower but in her bed, she felt dizzy and heard a ringing noise. She turned her head and saw Henrietta, one of the maids, sitting next to her bed and knitting. She felt hot and tried to move her arm out from under the covers, but when she did, it burned like fire, not the skin, but inside, as if something was wrong with her bones.

"Auaa," she moaned. "Oh my child, you are awake, the others will be so happy. Stay nicely lying down, I will call the apothecary." Fionsrah didn't understand what Henrietta had said, the ringing was too loud, it seemed to come from everywhere. She kept still, and the burning subsided as if needles were being removed from her, leaving behind a humming and tingling, as well as the feeling of Henrietta's hand that had stroked her cheek.

Henrietta returned to the room and shortly after, the apothecary, a quirky old woman, who Fionsrah didn't like came in. She had a large drinking cup with her, what bitter medicine could be inside, Fionsrah thought to herself. After she was put in pain again as she was propped up in bed, she got to drink from this cup, bitter was no expression for the bright red, corrosively smelling broth, slimy and oily was the stuff and after the first sip, her mouth felt like flooded with sand and sawdust. When she spit some of it out again, she received angry looks from the apothecary, "If you want the burning to stop, you'll have to drink it all." "What?" croaked Fionsrah. The effect of the first sip settled in and her mouth and throat began to feel cool and a little numb, so she opened her mouth and received the rest of the nasty stuff. "Will her pains go away?" Henrietta asked. "The essence of the dragon releases the soul of a dragon into the blood, where the fire that normally burns in a dragon is ignited. This then burns away toxins and other diseases and ailments, but the person would completely burn, so the essence of the dragon must be administered a second time to calm the soul and extinguish the fire." Henrietta was only amazed at these explanations and sat down.
