Sekuria’s End

Part 1

Prologue

Sylvania sat at the edge of her bed, looking at the lion head etched into her skin beneath her palm. “Do you ever think about how things could have been different Biorl, if it wasn’t us?”

“What do you mean? Are you asking what could have been if we never met? Biorl asked quizzically. Muffled voices could be heard from the nearby room.

“You know that’s not what I mean.” looking up she added, “where would we be, you and I, if we met outside of the Watch?”

“Are you asking if we could have settled down if we met under different circumstances?”

His brow furled looking towards her .”I have a hard enough time thinking of the lioness settling down anywhere. I guess we could have traveled the world, I’ve seen most of Selvora but maybe Felrovial or, or Juminsara maybe.” he said, smiling. More serious he added, “I love you, but I can’t imagine you, or me, content anywhere but here.”  The nearby voices grew more intense.

“I know your right, but this has finally come to a head. We fight Him tomorrow. Vyke and Borallis have been planning this for weeks.” she turned from him. “What if its not enough?”

“You are the most fierce warrior I know Syl, we won’t lose.”

“I’m not necessarily worried about losing, Biorl. I’m worried about winning and having to experience that victory without you” exasperated she continued. “ God, or Sekuria, or Vyke or any of them!” what if we don’t all make it out alive Biorl?”

Before he could respond, shouting and the quick clash of steel echoed down the hall. Both Sylvania and Biorl raced down the hall towards the war room where the others had been meeting. Sekuria, blood running down his cheek, held his blade high. Across from him was Tordale, blood rushing down his shirt and dripping onto the ground beneath him.

“What’s this all about!” Biorl shouted racing between the two.

“We were finishing up the plans and Tordale began shouting down Sekuria. He jumped at him with a knife.” Vyke sounded astonished.

Tordale, grimacing from the pain jolted up, knife in hand. “I’ve had enough of your superiority complex Sekuria, your not as high and mighty as you seem, and you don’t lead us.”

“Nobody leads, Tordale! I’ve made no assumptions to do so!” Sekuria shouted. As he did so, a dark aura filled the room and a dark reddish energy began to surround the group. As they watched, the color in Tordale’s skin began to fade.

After a moment of silence, Sekuria began to sheathe his blade. “I think its time you left.”

Anger and discontentment filled Tordale, before, slowly, he left the room, up the stairs to the world above.

“What do we do now?” Borallis asked, his demeanor cast down. “This was going to be hard enough as it was, but now…”

Vyke shrugged. “We will have to continue with the plan.”

after a moment Sekuria wiped the drying blood from his cheek. “Come on, we have things to do tonight.”

Sylvania followed behind the others but deep inside she feared more than ever.
