The Restorationists

We don't want no part of it here!The Restorationists are a faction of "anti-mages" who choose to live as far removed from the influence of Literomancy as possible. They might have a number of reasons for their distrust of magic — religious beliefs, suspicion of power, a dislike of things they don't understand, or perhaps just a desire to maintain a traditional way of life in the face of dramatic changes. Anti-Literomancer groups are not uncommon, but the Restorationists take this a step further. They choose to live as far apart from mainstream society, and the Protectorate system, as they possibly can. For most, this means living in remote communities, such as Keno City, a small mining town in the Yukon, but some are actively antagonistic, such as those who came from the "sovereign citizen" and "freeman on the land" movements.
Public Perception
Bah, don't be too hard on them. I sympathize, I really do. All of this can be a bit much to accept. Sometimes even I have trouble with it. There's some real appeal to living away from all this nonsense off in the bush somewhere.Most people regard the Restorationists with a degree of amused contempt. They are seen as something like Luddites, resisting technological changes that are inevitable. Like it or not, the reawakening of magic has changed everything. Zombies are a genuine threat every November, and they are merely the tip of the iceberg. Most people are grateful to have people around who understand all of this, and have the capabilities to deal with it. Even those who dislike the idea of Literomancers holding power usually advocate for a shift in the balance of power, not their abolition. The Restorationists want things to go back to the way they were. Many advance the opinion that since literomancers have all this power, they should simply make that happen. The fact that they don't is suspicious on its face, and the most conspiratorial among the Restorationists believe it's because they don't want to lose the power they have gained.
Heh. "Put things back the way they were." Wouldn't that be nice.
Culture
Major language groups and dialects
Restorationists are largely a North American movement, so they tend to speak English more than any other language. However, there are small pockets of Restorationists in every Protectorate, so they also speak a variety of European and South Pacific languages, as well as a number of Indigenous languages.
Shared customary codes and values
Restorationists have a strong libertarian streak. They value self-reliance. Many were "preppers" prior to the events of 2020, and view their preparedness as having been validated when everything fell apart in the zombie apocalypse. Most either choose to live off the land, or contribute to community-based initiatives to grow their own food as much as possible, build their own homes, and take care of themselves.
This does not mean that they live entirely separate from economic exchanges. They are more than willing to sell the fruits of their labour for the things they need. Fuel, in particular, is something they cannot produce much of, and since they refuse most literomantically-enhanced energy technologies, they rely upon it.
Most Restorationists maintain personal firearms, either for hunting, or for protection against zombies should the need arise. However, since they tend to live in remote communities, they rarely have the need.
Common Dress code
Restorationists dress in ways that are normal for their environments, cultures and professions. Since they live in "the bush," they often wear rough clothing that is chosen more for its practicality than style. It is not uncommon for them to dress in entirely handmade clothing, either.
Foods & Cuisine
Since they live in remote areas, or entirely off the grid, Restorationists often eat a lot more game meat than other communities. They also eat freshly-harvested vegetables and things that preserve well, like canned and dried goods.
