Wheel of Misfortune

The Wheel of Misfortune is a philosophical concept that embodies the apparent randomness and uncertainty of whether or not a Tome Knight will fall to The Undead Horde in the November Word Wars, and become a Tome Zombie. Sometimes, a Tome Knight gets lucky, and the Wheel spins, and passes them by. Sometimes, they are not.     Tome Knights speak of the Wheel as though some omnipresent being (often thought to be The Iron Tome) were spinning a game show or lottery wheel. If your name comes up, you're dead.   Sometimes, they speak of the Wheel almost as if it had a mind of its own.

  When Archon The Bard with Many Names became the Night Monarch in The Fifth Word War, he spoke of the Wheel directly, and promised there would be "no Wheel" by virtue of his metaphysical powers as the Lord of the Wild Hunt . And indeed, the promise seemed to hold true, since only those who chose undeath, at least among the Tome Knights, were taken by the Horde... at least, until things got out of hand.
