Dust Bunnies
Dust bunnies are entities that are the result of an accidental interaction between large quantities of Literomantic Power and dust within The Warren. It is unclear whether they actually descend from rabbits, or have simply developed a similar form and some similar behaviours as a result of spontaneous parallel magical evolution.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Dust bunnies take the shape of small rabbits, but they appear to be formed of different kinds of small particles that might be classified as "dust." This could be any form of dust, from silt and dirt, to the dream dust secreted by Mykola Lapin-Void as a side effect of being Voidtouched, to the Glitter, magically charged or otherwise, that continues to be scattered through the Warren.
Dust bunnies might be dun-coloured or greyish, or floofy and furry, multi-coloured (if formed of something like chalk dust or cosmetics powder,) or sparkly (if comprised of glitter). They may even have tiny feathers or bits of down, or even such components as yellowish foam dust, styrofoam powder, or fiberglass.
To all other appearances, they move and act like rabbits. However, they are capable of dissipating and reforming like animated dust clouds. They have also been known, rarely, to form into a gigantic dust cloud swarm, which can travel on its own wind. When struck with physical attacks, they simply dissipate and reform later.
There is one exception to this. Occasionally, a dust bunny forms out of a flammable or explosive substance, like gunpowder or flour. While they don't tend to ignite on their own, if they do start to burn, they will explode if struck with a physical attack, and then reform later.
Genetics and Reproduction
Dust bunnies always multiply. Always. How? We don't know. We don't want to.
Growth Rate & Stages
Tiny dust bunnies, which may be kits, have been seen. However, they might simply be a variation on the species. Large dust bunnies, the size of a chicken egg, have also been seen.
Ecology and Habitats
Originally found only within the Warren, dust bunnies seem to prefer dark corners that are unlikely to be disturbed. They also have a penchant for hiding under furniture. Occasionally, they are found congregating in unused wings of libraries and around fans and vents. They flee whenever someone runs a vacuum cleaner.
Recently, they have been found in other locations in Okanagan City as well. Biologists conclude that they are likely spreading.
I'd be willing to bet they've completely infested The Glitter Mines by now. Which pays Foxx back for those damn Commants.
Dietary Needs and Habits
While still subject to debate, it appears that dust bunnies feed on the residue of literomantic energy. They tend to poke their dusty noses out of hiding whenever spellwork or literomantic ritual is underway. Fluffles of them have been seen gathering whenever literomantic energy is present, and they seem to make efforts to get close to Literomancers or other spellcasters, leaving dusty residue wherever they nest.
For filk's sake! I just dusted in here yesterday!
Sable, HOW do you get so much dust under your bed?!
Biological Cycle
It is unclear if dust bunnies can even function outdoors in wet conditions, but there may be dust bunnies made of powdered snow in places where snow remains year-round.
Behaviour
While normally timid and somewhat shy, dust bunnies also seem to thrive on mischief and chaos. They will occasionally play pranks around the Warren, such as hiding keys, and on at least one occasion, they have been witnessed appearing in a massive cloud, summoned to the Mother of Bunnies' call, to harass the Self Care Mafia in a turf war. As they also exhibit considerable craftiness, much as rabbits do, it is possible this sense of mischief is used to coax literomancers into generating more literomantic power without causing lasting harm.
Why... WHY DO YOU HAVE THESE?
Ah, Bard! I should have guessed... Well, they formed accidentally because I'm terrible at cleaning, and literomantic bleed is a thing, and now they just... breed...
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
It is unclear if dust bunnies have regular senses, but they react like they do. Their ears twitch in response to noises, they wiggle their noses to sniff, and they appear to follow movement with their eyes. However, since they clearly have an extremely unique physiology, biologists have no idea if those senses function in the same way.
