Lapin Lira

The Lapin Lira is the official currency of House Lapin and the Lapin Protectorate. Banknotes, or "bills" in common lexicon, are known by the nickname "Bunnybucks," denominated as LL, L£ or £ locally. As of 2023, they are currently issued in £1, £2, £5, £10, £20, £50, £100 and £1000 denominations. Originally printed in 2021 at the formation of the Lapin Protectorate, they did not initially include a £1000 denomination, which was added in 2024.   The Lapin Lira is considered to be one of the world's most stable currencies in the post-Tome-awakening world, despite its temporary collapse in late 2022.

Appearance

Since much of the Lapin Protectorate arose from the collapse of the nation of Canada, their currency design is strongly influenced by the Canadian tradition of beauty in their bills. Banknotes are printed in "Lapin pink," a pink coral shade that is distinctly recognizable, with the Lapin banner on the top right of either side of the bill. They are also printed in both of Lapin's official languages, English and French, and display the image of Queen Sable Aradia, the Lapin Monarch, along with her signature on the left side of the face, and her Royal Cypher on the right.   A colour image of The Warren appears on the right side of the back. Each bill also displays the signature of the Governor of the Bank of Lapin, and the Deputy Governor, on the back's left side. Denominations appear in metallicized panels in English and French on the bill facing and opposite corners on the backing, and metallic Arabic numerals on the facing center and remaining corners on the backing. The "starry border" is also metallic.   The current series features images of hallmark locations within the Lapin Protectorate on the banknote face, and stylized images commemorating famous acts of heroism by Lapin Literomancers on the back center.
The first series of banknotes were simpler by need of expediency, featuring a stylized image of Queen Sable and a "rabbit head" design in the center of the back of the bill, hence the name "Bunnybucks."

All metallic components and lettering are slightly raised to aid with identification for the visually impaired, along with the denomination of the banknote in raised Braille on the bill's facing. The image of Queen Sable is also slightly raised, as are the commemorative stylized images on the current banknote series.

Security Features

Lapin Lira banknotes incorporate a number of the most modern security features available, including difficult to counterfeit wavy line patterns, raised features and lettering, holograms, and the EURion constellation. They also take advantage of a unique use of Literomancy by HRM Queen Sable to track counterfeiting and fraud (explained in the sidebar.) For a more detailed breakdown, and where to find them, please click on the map to the right and check out the different layers to explore these features and how they work.

The original Lapin Lira banknote was printed on pure cotton paper with polymer elements by the Bank of Lapin. The second series, which began printing in 2023, is printed on cotton paper, interwoven with biodegradable synthetic polymer, for additional security features and improved durability.   Since the first printing, the Lapin Lira banknote has been linked to a Literomantic enchantment that, while it is not contained within the banknote itself, is integral to its usage and helps to prevent fraud and counterfeiting. Namely, HRM Queen Sable has invoked a permanent spell effect that allows her to know when people lie in her name. Since the Bunny Queen's personal image, signature, and royal cypher are featured on every bill, which demonstrates that she personally backs each banknote, spending Lapin Lira currency is implicitly invoking the word of the Mother of Bunnies. Therefore, Queen Sable knows immediately when such bills are spent fraudulently — and this is an excellent way to invoke the ire of the Owsla.

Well, being pushed off a bridge was bad enough, and then waking up in Japan, but at least I made it on the One!
