Enchanted Amethyst

Enchanted Amethyst is created from normal amethyst crystals, but it is magically enchanted to draw out its symbolic magical qualities. While the invention of this material is commonly credited to Sable Aradia in the modern Literomantic Era, it is likely that AttorraRu has been using the same process to create Enchanted Amethyst in her crystal cave for centuries.

Manufacturing process

The Literomancy can either be accomplished beforehand, by writing the means of enchantment into text, or at the time, by inscribing the amethyst with visible or invisible runes. Either method seems to prove equally effective, but runes, if known, are less time consuming.

History

During the April Tourney of 2022, Queen Sable was poisoned via leftover chili from the Chili Cook-Off. During the subsequent July Tourney, the Owsla were constantly required to taste her food, and if they were not available, she could not eat or drink.   She then remembered some of the fabled magical properties of crystals, which had been part of her studies in witchcraft prior to the awakening of Literomancy. Amethyst, by tradition, was used to remove or resist poison and drunkenness (another form of poisoning, technically). Realizing that the traditional magical uses of crystals were a form of trope, the Bunny Queen reasoned that it should be possible to enhance their properties in folklore through the use of literomancy — and that, indeed, this should also be applicable to any traditional folkloric remedy.   She attempted a variation of an exercise she learned in her Pagan studies — generating a ball of energy, and storing it within a crystal, much the same way that Literomantic Batteries are created.   The attempt proved effective. Queen Sable then got into the habit of enchanting amethyst crystals, or amethyst dust, in batches, and now adds a crystal or a bit of dust to anything she eats or drinks as a precautionary method. This puts less labour on her Owsla and puts them less at risk as well.

Limitations

Merely enchanting or imbuing a crystal without the use of the process that creates Literomantic Batteries has limitations. A crystal so imbued will "leak" literomantic energy over time, and will need to be re-enchanted occasionally. Such a crystal is also limited in the amount of literomantic energy it can contain. This varies, and is partially limited by size, and partially by the crystal's clarity and purity. If too much energy is poured into a crystal in this way, it will crack. It will also crack if it is hit with literomantic attack of sufficient strength.
