Lee O'Hawk

Lee O'Hawk is a faithful retainer of House Sauropoda and serves in many roles, including as a Bodyguard, temporary captain of the Raptor Squad, Acting House Librarian, and unbeknownst to him, House Heir.  

Background:

  Born in 2003, Lee grew up in small town Vermont, the youngest child of a state-level bureaucrat and a poet. Though not officially tied to any of the old Literomantic Houses, Lee's mother was descended from Literomancers; her grandmother had been born to one of the houses before cutting ties with her parents to marry the man she loved. While she did eventually reestablish personal ties, the entire family like was cut out of full inheritance. That did not mean an end to their practice of literomancy though, and the secrets of power were passed down piecemeal from one generation to the next. Lee therefore grew up learning about Literomancy, but not connected to any of the houses.   Lee otherwise had a fairly typical childhood. He attended a local public school and got decent grades, excelling especially in English class. His mother instilled in him a love of poetry, and he took that to heart, writing prolifically throughout middle school and high school. He was able to achieve minor literomantic effects from a young age, and was determined to push the limits of his power. This culminated in 2017, when he was a sophomore in high school and attempted to delay a rainstorm for a friends birthday party. The effort required was unsustainable pre- Tome-awakening and caused a Magical Backlash that weakened the fabric of reality, opening up a portal that quickly collapsed.    While the portal was open, a creature wandered through, and then became trapped. Said creature was a triceratops, who was not specially thrilled to be stuck and did not quite understand what was going on. Lee was able to calm the beast down, however, and with a little bit of effort, tame the creature. His father leveraged his government contacts to forge a little bit of paperwork, and with living in a relatively rural area and his mother weaving a minor literomantic enchantment, they were able to keep anyone from getting to suspicious. For years Triad, as the beast was dubbed, lived in a paddock that they created, with a barn for shelter in the winter, with very little objection from anyone.   Then came 2020, and The First Word War. Lee's mother tried desperately to keep her family out of it. Lee was still in high school at the time, and had a hard time of it. During Christmas break, after classes had more or less gotten back on track, he confided in his mother that he was slightly confused, as he seemed to remember an illness nobody else around him seemed to remember. His mother, who still had a few contacts in House Apis, asked a few questions, though she refused to tell him exactly what it was that she found out.   The next few years were difficult. School in the time of the Zombies was no easy thing to live with, but he managed to keep his grades up. The war never really effected them directly, apart from on brief skirmish in 2022, but it was all around them. Toward the end of The Third Word War, as the undead besieged Mt. Michell, Lee pressured his mother to do what they could literomantically. He used her method of baking cookies that had always had some minor healing proprieties, but now, with The Iron Tome active, were full and proper healing cookies, and worked with his friends in the robotics club to create a drone delivery system that could reach all the way to Mt. Michell, arriving post battle for much needed relief.   While Lee's friends made plans to attend various universities in the fall, after graduation, Lee's mother encouraged him to seek more literomantic training. Rather than head north to the World Literomantic Academy, or set out west to Penwall, Lee decided to head down to Mt. Mitchell, as he'd heard that the community college there taught literomancy. That July, he packed up his car, loaded up Triad into a double wide horse trailer, and set out, with only a letter of introduction from his mother, who had contacted King Bob since the mysterious disappearance of House Apis.    That was where he met then-Raptor-Captain Dazzlinkat and, after agreeing to let her convert the car to run on biodiesel, as per local law, got to talking and ended up agreeing to a part time apprenticeship while he took a job at the farm, who also agreed to house Triad in the barn with the cows.   He accepted the position as Bodyguard that November asAttorraRu rose as Nite Qween and fought valiantly against The Undead Horde, and was instrumental in evacuation efforts before the destruction of Mt. Mitchell, while Triad was a key player in The Glitter Raid later in the war. He continued to serve after the war, and when King Bob vacated the throne temporarily in 2024 to pursue more detailed research, he was promoted to Acting Raptor Captain (and, unbeknownst to him, House Heir) by Regent Dazzlinkat. He again ended up as key player of the evacuation of (now) Mesa Mitchell, having Triad ferry civilians out of the burning city.   After an off-handed comment during the July Tourney that somebody should probably at least look over the collection while ECC Books was on sabbatical, he was also thrust into the role of temporary House Librarian, as well as continued Raptor Captain duties while King Bob's sabbatical continued. The only thing keeping him sane is the support from his friends Benny, a literomantic student who Lee met working at the community farm, and Kayla, his childhood best friend who is now studying at UVM and is still gobsmacked by the fact that he hangs out with literal royalty.
