Meles Consulate

The Meles Consulate, located off the right of the main hall of The Warren, just past the first security checkpoint, is marked by elaborate willow-woven doors. Entering into the space reveals an area decorated primarily with green and gold luxury carpet, green fabrics, and warm wood or snug stone. Paintings of woodland scenes adorn the walls; here, a raccoon peeking through thicket; there, a fox in autumn foliage; down the hall, a silhouette of a stag in green gloaming.
Princess Rowean, "Inside the Warren: An Architectural and Tourist's Guide"
The Meles Consulate is one of many Consulates of The Great Houses that has been constructed within the manifold halls of the Warren. Considered the sovereign jurisdiction of House Meles, it was constructed following The Second Word War to provide accommodations for the House of the Badgers in the event that they once again ended up as refugees of the Lapin Protectorate. In practice, the Consulate ends up being at least partially occupied for most of the year, since the Woodlander Royal Family spends a great deal of time visiting and associating with one another.

Alterations

Originally, the Meles Consulate was little more than a few hastily-excavated burrows with all the warmth and protection of a fallout shelter. Since then, it has been considerably expanded, supplied with luxuries, and adorned with the sorts of little touches of home that make it a uniquely Melesian space.

Architecture

The Meles Consulate is integrated into the Warren's construction, meaning that it exists on multiple underground levels. The first floor is part of the main floor of the Warren, and is primarily given to the living space of the high royals of the House; King Darth Nikolas, King Consort Realm of Music, Princess Purpleheart, and Princess ShyRedFox. The first sublevel houses the Brocktrees, the other Literomancers of the House not otherwise provided for, and the Royal Lounge, and is connected to the House Lapin Royal Living Quarters. The second sublevel houses all of the Forgelings, and connects to the Lapin Royal Nursery and to the suite of Lord Galakrond, which might be considered a third sublevel.

The adult scions of the Royal Family all have their own private rooms. The largest is the Royal Bedchamber, which was once occupied by King Darth Nikolas and King Realm of Music... but it currently lies empty, the bedding all made, waiting hopefully for their return.   The Princesses Badger have private quarters as well. Purpleheart's features a gorgeous canopy bed, draped in purple velvet, and purple lamps and flowers break up the brown and the green.   Shy's quarters are no smaller, but perhaps a bit more humble. A painting of Mt. Fuji is featured on one wall, while another features a sakura in spring. Under the pink-blossomed cherry tree, a tea set lies waiting on a low-set table.   The remainder of the floor is occupied by a shared bathroom and shower area, featuring individual stalls. An elevator, and an emergency stairwell, lead down to the second level.   The Brocktree quarters are shared, two to a room, but considering the close space, those rooms are luxurious. Again decorated in green and brown, featuring a plethora of natural wood, there is personal desk space for each of the royal guards, live plants and mushrooms in pots, and weapons racks designed for their signature weaponry.   Continuing down the hall reveals the Royal Lounge. This room perhaps best embodies the spirit of Meles. Wood floors, a green moss rug in the center of the room, and wooden and green velvet carpeted furniture. Paintings are again in a woodland theme, but the finest feature of the room is, arguably, the plant and fungal life. Large mushrooms in pots and leafy green plants give the room a genuine woodsy feel.   Across from the Royal Lounge is the Meles barracks; accommodations for House literomancers who are not Brocktrees or part of the Royal Family. While, again, the quarters are close - it is, after all, a barracks - the bunks are comfortable, well supplied with quality linens, with lockers close to hand. There is also a large table for socializing and a chest of cards and games.   Through the barracks, one may enter the Royal Living Quarters of the Warren, through a sealed blast door that requires a code to access.   The third floor down, through another blast door, and then another willow door, is the large room shared by the Forgelings, each provided with a big canopied bed for some privacy. This space is now in the deep quartz caverns of the Warren, so the walls are shimmering white. The floor is wood to soften the effect, however; paneled in a green and brown checker pattern.   Off the shared bedroom is a dressing room, filled with dressers, wardrobes, and desks for writing. Through this room is a hallway, with an enormous, luxury shower and a separated area of toilet stalls.   Continuing down the hallway, one comes to another security door, this one in basic black. If one were to discover the code, and pass the wards, one would find themself in Lord Galakrond's suite. Located in one of the darkest areas of the Warren, it consists of several twilight-illuminated rooms, decorated in black and green, with phosphorescent mushrooms providing most of the illumination, even in the shared gaming room with its giant monitor. What lies beneath this is a secret known only to the Badger Prince and those he has granted rare visitation privileges.   On the other end of the Forgelings' sleeping quarters is a gaming area for their exclusive use, featuring another enormous monitor, and a long gaming couch that wraps the other three three walls... and then another hallway. Through yet another security door, one would find oneself in the play area of the Lapin Royal Nursery, where Princess Luna, Duke Uri, and the Bunny Queen's three grandchildren dwell.   None of these living spaces, not even the barracks, lack libraries. As befits literomancers, there are books absolutely everywhere.
