Princess Badger is not a title Shy ever expected to carry. "Shocked to the core," is how she described the discovery of her having royal badger blood, when The Late Great Badger's Diary was found in the Meles Library basement.   For Shy, helping her nephew Regent, Prince Galakrond and her half sister, Princess Badger Purpleheart lead House Meles is an honor and a privilege. She feels a Princess and Trifecta leadership member should first and foremost be a servant.   Other duties she carries include House Librarian and conniving plots to help with badger recruitment.

She stepped down from being a Brocktree guard in November of 2023 to make room for new guards and help provide stability for the house should one of its leaders fall. (The Brocktrees have traditionally been a royalty and seneschal heavy group.)   She's proud to serve House Meles in any way she can.   Shy is also the Oyabun (clan head) of the Self Care Mafia

She's the former head of the now defunct House Kitsune and former Stinger Squadron guard in House Apis for Queen Bee Dani.  

Literomantic Abilities

Literomantic Infusion Tech

She uses her own energy to infuse magic into tech to boost their effectiveness for Literomancers. Literomantic keyboards for The Fourth Word War were her first foray into this technology. She rigged a 3D printer and channeled energy into the machine to print powerful keyboards to speed wording for the war effort.   Using one's own energy for this technique has limits. But Shy is willing to teach any who wish to learn.

 

Research

She’s leading a team researching into why the Nite Monarchs develop. The only significant link so far is having access or being near to the The Iron Tome.

She's also leading a team to infuse Literomantic energy into a mag lev train system between the Woodlander protectorates. Though she only has so much energy to give. She will be contacting Senna Nightshade to see if MagiTech may be incorporated.

 

Other Magic Areas

Using Literomancy for organization. If Shy writes things down, everything seems to go more smoothly. She's studying the effects, to see if this is peculiar to just her or if it can be utilized for her House and other Literomancers. Is this an echo of Kotodama, an ancient Japanese idea where the once the spoken or written word comes into being it's manifested? Either way, Shy is now more careful of the things she says and writes down.

Learning wards. Shy wants to help the Meles royalty secure the Windy Willows "The Den". She's not been cleared quite yet for doing wards for the Willows without having them checked, due to the unstable nature of the magic in the Library.

 

Interests

Carving out free time is becoming harder with the added responsibilities Shy carries. But when she's able, she heads to the forest, climbs a tree, and writes, reads books from the library, or knits. She finds these hobbies soothing after a hectic day of royal duties or trying to wrangle baby badgers.  

Isn't She a Human Author?

Shy spent most of her life as a human dabbling in things that interested her (from programming for a government contractor to textile arts to attempting to learn Japanese) while she and her husband raised their children. But now that the kids are grown, she's ready to scout places for fresh adventures with her beloved.   As she travels through time and space, she writes about the places and people she discovers. The most recent visit was to modern, mythical Japan, which resulted in her first urban fantasy novel. After crossing over into the spirit realm, she found herself transformed into a three-tailed kitsune and hasn't bothered to find out if she can revert to a human. Why mess with a good look?  

What's with the weapons? I thought she was 'nice'...

When one travels the planes, one learns to defend themselves. There is no negotiating with a cranky hydra or a fire elemental with eternal hiccups. Shy knows from experience! Her handy blaster and trusty naginata are her weapons of choice. She's still working growing in her ki based magic style. But she can manage a strong shield in a pinch.    

Why the little badger? And I thought foxes ate squirrels!

Clawdia, a young European badger, follows most everyone in the Meles den around. But she first bonded with Shy.   As Shy was making her way to the den after House Apis closed down, she found a baby badger that said she was lost and couldn't find her mother. The little tyke was hungry, so Shy took the badgerling under wing and fed her. Clawdia's favorite food is donuts. Lots of them.   Shy's squirrel companion is no mere rodent! It's an interdimensional portal creating beast she had to work for years to befriend in the plane of her friend Solar Cat. It took thousands of bags of acorns and a lot of chasing. They lost most of those acorns to the aforementioned fire elemental. (Don't ask about that incident. The gang still has nightmares about it.)   Unfortunately, the squirrel can only return to where it buried an acorn. Shy has learned to booby-trap the acorns left behind as the group tries to return home.
