Grand Alliance

The Grand Alliance was formed during The Second Word War in response to the renewed threat of the Undead Horde. Eschewing the traditional fealty relationships of one House to another that was essential in earlier times, the then-leaders of The Great Houses came together to form a military pact in opposition to the Undead Horde. This informal arrangement was later ratified in The Treaty of the Great Houses, in which the Great Houses agreed to mutually defend one another and their territories against supernatural threats.

Structure

All Great Houses, and their House Leaders, are considered equals in the Grand Alliance and the subsequent Council of the Great Houses. However, Queen Sable is often seen as a defacto leader as a major archetect of the alliance and the treaty. This acknowledgement is entirely informal and there is no actual authority behind it.
What? "Leader?" snorts Occasionally I'm Chief Cat Herder, I guess...
— Queen Sable

History

The Second Word War created chaos for most of the newly-formed Protectorates governed by the Great Houses. Initially, tensions escalated between the Houses as they were led to believe that various attacks and threats of attack were masterminded by each other. However, the true culprit was a new Night Monarch, AuthorGoddess.   The example was set by Kahuna the Elder of House Tiki and King Bob of House Sauropoda, who, being personal friends outside of the concerns of their Houses, decided to support each other in a mutual alliance. The Minor Houses House Kitsune, House Ceapaire, House Incendium, and The Missing House soon followed suit, and this example also led Queen Sable Aradia of House Lapin and Queen Siobhan the Writer of House Chiroptera, who were also friends, to put aside their differences and form the Babbit Alliance.   Through a combination of loyalties and circumstances, eventually everyone ended up as refugees at The Warren at the end of Word War 2. Perhaps sensing the public sentiment, perhaps driven by good feelings and mutual trust, Queen Sable did not demand fealty of any of the Great Houses, but instead, formed the Grand Alliance; a mutual defense pact and combined forces effort somewhat akin to NATO.   Following the Second Word War, while hosting the April Tourney 2022, Queen Sable pushed to create a formal treaty of mutual defense, modeled after the North Atlantic Treaty. It was officially ratified in July of the same year, and led to the formation of the Council of the Great Houses.
