Paper Airplane Message

A paper airplane? We haven't received one of those since The Third Word War...
Queen Sable Aradia after the Raizing of the SCM HQ in The Sixth Word War

A Paper Airplane Message is a Literomantic enchantment for the purpose of sending messages between Literomancers over considerable distances. It is, effectively, a limited teleportation spell that sends a written message instantly from its source literomancer, directly to another literomancer. Developed prior to the Third Word War for the sharing of high-priority information and intelligence, particularly between House Leaders, it fell out of fashion for a time. However, since Princess ShyRedFox sent a message to Queen Sable of House Lapin in this way while she was the Night Monarch, it is has begun to see use once again.

Effect

To use the charm, a literomancer inscribes a message on a piece of paper with literomantically-inbued ink, addressed to the intended recipient. They sign the message with their own personal symbol, such as a Royal Cypher, and then on the back of the paper that carries the message, they write a literomantic inscription that implies movement, such as the Norse runes Perdho "wheel," Raidho "journey" or Thurisaz "gateway," a sigil created with the Rose Cross method, the time/distance Reiki symbol, a short verse, or similar.   The literomancer then folds the paper with the charm and message into a paper airplane, and fires it into the air, visualizing the intended recipient.   If the charm is successful, the paper airplane vanishes and reappears within the immediate proximity of the recipient. It is not uncommon for paper airplanes to arrive by poking the recipient in the ear, landing in their hair, etc.   In theory, a paper airplane message could be used to send a message to a non-literomancer, but this has yet to be attempted.

Manifestation

While a teleporting paper airplane is the typical form this spell takes, there are other manifestations and methods of accomplishing a similar purpose. During a lecture delivered by Queen Sable on Literomantic Theory at the World Literomantic Academy Warren Campus, Chiropteran Librarian and KnightwingClockwocket crafted what might be considered a variation of this spell by forming an origami crane that flew a contained message to Dame Flubb, who was also attending the class.   Because this is a teleport spell effect, paper airplanes cannot be teleported directly into The Warren. Instead, paper airplane messages are redirected to a recepticle in the Warren Command Room for immediate attention.

Source

Literomantic Power generated by the casting literomancer is required to power this charm, as with all literomancy, but the energy cost is relatively low, and most literomancers barely notice it. Risk of Magic Drain is extremely low.

Discovery

While numerous literomancers, particularly House Leaders, remember utilizing paper airplane messages to communicate in the period between The Second Word War and the Third, no one remembers who initially conceived of the idea. The most prevalent theory is that it was invented by someone from The Missing House or another one of The Missing.
