Chaos Cartel

The Chaos Cartel is one of the two major criminal syndicates in the Realm. Their stated purpose is encouragement, and embracing the things that make you happy and give you inspiration, even if they are a bit crazy or technically bad for you. They will always tell you to eat the chocolate, to write the silly fluff fic, to indulge your favourite ship, and to have pie for breakfast if that's what pleases you. This can sometimes lead them into direct conflict with the work of the Self Care Mafia, so the two syndicates occasionally engage in turf wars. This is one reason why both are considered outlaw organizations in most Protectorates.

Game Mechanics:

The Chaos Cartel is a loosely-organized group that anyone can be part of simply by declaring their membership. The Cartel exists to do things to encourage the other Tome Knights. They may offer writing prompts to inspire you on a daily basis during a GoT event, have encouraging and inspirational-based goals that they award badges for, and give awards and even titles for those who go above and beyond the call of duty in being a font of encouragement and inspiration.   One cannot be a member of both the Self Care Mafia and the Chaos Cartel. The real reason is that we don't want anyone to take on too much at once, but the in-Lore rivalry makes a great excuse, and leads to a lot of fun roleplay!

Structure

Um... it's called the Chaos Cartel?
— Founder Tempest Kwake
It is strongly suspected that Queen Sable Aradia is the Capo of the Cartel, but other than that, there is little real structure. AttorraRu is known to just assign herself authority to act on behalf of the Cartel at random. She has yet to be corrected on this.   AttorraRu has confirmed that she is one of the ranking members of the Cartel. Suspected "Capers" (Lieutenants) also include Cheetya Ironfist and none other than Queen TaraFaeBelle.

Culture

The Cartel has a culture of encouraging people to be impulsive and follow their hearts, whether that's among their own members, or among the general populace. Often, the members of the Cartel act independently, and sometimes even assign themselves missions (especially the Capers). Most of the major figures in the Cartel tend to be neurodiverse and they celebrate that neurodiversity. They also have a tendency to laugh at their own failings and take pleasure in other forms of gentle teasing and self-deprecating humour, and they try never to take themselves too seriously.
DIGNITY?! If you wanted dignity, you never should have joined the Game of Tomes!
— Sable Aradia

Public Agenda

The Chaos Cartel is dedicated to encouraging others in their literomantic endeavours, whether that is by rewarding oneself with treats, breaking the rules for stress relief, or recognizing those who have encouraged others.

Assets

The Cartel shares access to The Glitter Mines with the Self Care Mafia, although whether that is an asset or not is a subject of debate.

History

When House Kitsune evolved into the Self Care Mafia in November 2021, Tempest Kwake, driven by a sense of mischief, felt that they needed a counter-balance so that people would not forget to embrace the sense of pure fun that was an important part of the culture of Tome Knights. Having just unleashed The Filking Plague on the world, they subsequently dissolved House Incendium and urged their sibling to join them in a mission to bring chaos and inspiration to all Literomancers. While it is pretty much an open secret that Queen Sable accepted the invitation, she has never openly admitted her allegiance, and it cannot, in fact, be proven.   Other members of the Woodland Royal Family likely also accepted the invitation along the way, including Senna Nightshade and Mykola Lapin-Void. They promptly engaged in a (mostly) friendly rivalry with the Self Care Mafia, and some dramatic turf wars have occurred from time to time.   The Cartel began to offer inspirational prompts during events, and created The Flame of Encouragement to recognize people who went out of their way to encourage and inspire others.   In November of 2022, Mykola Lapin-Void earned the title of "the Candle of Hope" by offering the embattled Tome Knights an inspirational quote each day. She was promptly promoted to Caper, and this evolved into the Inspiration Team, which is now an endeavour that is maintained by Tome Knights drawn from both Cartel and SCM members.   In April of 2023, the two syndicates met in a secret meeting in a Seattle warehouse, and buried the figurative hatchet. In the aftermath of a devastating Word War, they decided they had little spoons to spare for territorial disputes, recognized their common ground in nurturing the bodies and spirits of their fellow Tome Knights, and decided to form an alliance called The Support Syndicate. Queen Sable wrote a filk commemorating the occasion.   Following the death or disappearance of Prinx Tempest in The Great Migration in July 2023, and Queen Sable's health crisis, the Cartel limped along for some time. The Cartel elected a pair of co-Capos to replace the Prinx, one being Senna Nightshade, and the other almost certainly being the Bunny Queen. Evidence to support this came in the sudden creation of the Chaos Cartel Exercise Challenge, as the Mother of Bunnies is known to be an advocate for physical activity among literomancers.   The death of Caper Mykola Lapin-Void and disappearance of co-Capo Senna Nightshade in early 2025 just about completely extinguished the embers of the Chaos Cartel, which was already operating on fumes. Fortunately, reinforcements arrived in the form of House Lapin Librarian AttorraRu and Owsla Lieutenant Cheetya Ironfist... and, according to rumours that many scarcely credit, Owsla Lieutenant Flubb, who was thought to have been a Lieutenant in the Self Care Mafia.   AttorraRu's first act was to start another turf war with the Mafia, which concluded with significant vandalism to both the Self Care Cafe and the Chaos Coffee Shop, along with water, dust, whipping cream, slime, and Glitter scattered over several city blocks. This was immediately followed by a beach party.   Word on the street is that after the repairs and renovations, the Cartel is gearing up for the July Tourney. There are concerns.
