1337 Speak Reality ([LEET-speek ree-AL-i-tee], / ˈlitˌspik riˈæl ɪ ti /)

The geography of the 1337 Speak Reality, presumably, was very similar to our own. It was an alternate Earth, and its continents, coastlines, and other geographical features, strongly resembled the structure of the Earth prior to The Restructuring. Gravity worked in the same way, the atmosphere was similar, seasons progressed as one might expect from its corresponding geographic location on the Earth of the Tomeverse, and so forth. It is unknown if the structure of the rest of the universe around it was equally similar, but what remains of the work of 1337 Speak astrophysicists suggest that it was.

The climate in the 1337 Speak Reality started experiencing extreme weather events due to global temperatures rising in the later 1960s, after a limited nuclear exchange during the Cold War. While they were able to arrest the process by the subsequent use of Alientech, they were not able to reverse it, and some areas in the hottest places on Earth were deemed uninhabitable.

Flora and fauna, again, were very similar to that of the Tomeverse. However, as far as anyone was aware, Humans were the only sentient species, and there were no secret Werebeasts or similar in hiding.   Other sentient species may once have existed. The presence of "Alientech" suggests that the Dinosaur Civilization may once have been present, and experienced a similar extinction to that of the Tomeverse. However, there is also an alternate theory that Alientech may have come from ancient visiting extraterrestrials, or perhaps, whatever otherworldly creatures spawned The Cosmic Kraken and House Mollusca.   For some reason, Jackalopes also existed in the 1337 Speak Reality, and were considered a natural creature, no different from any other normal mammal.

To the best of the ability of sociologists, and the 1337 Speak Archive Project, to discern, the history of the 1337 Speak Reality and the Tomeverse paralleled each other significantly until the 1960s, with a few exceptions that resulted in significant differences in the long term.   One difference was that, with the discovery of Alientech in Finland in the 1960s, technology advanced at an even faster rate from that point on than in the Tomeverse. AI and virtual reality were available from the 1980s to the common person, and medical technology was considerably more advanced, incorporating nanotech into everything from fighting disease to prosthetics.   The price of this discovery was that the Cold War heated up, and there was a limited nuclear exchange that destroyed Moscow, Minsk, Beijing, Boulder, Dallas-Fort Worth, and the Enterprise carrier fleet. Two weeks later, the major powers signed the Helsinki Accords (many years earlier than the 1975 date of this event in the Tomeverse,) which, along with other agreements designed to reduce tension between the Cold War powers, outlawed all nuclear weapons and nuclear weapons research. The ground war between East and West over control of Alientech continued covertly and unofficially until 1972. As a result, the Vietnam War unfolded in a significantly different way, and the Chernobyl Disaster never happened, to name a couple of the most significant historical differences.   It was also at that point that most of the world shifted to writing in 1337 Speak, with the belief that this was a language that crossed the barriers of nationality more easily than other written languages, especially since most people frequently communicated online. Note that this did not change the essential character of any existing language — English was still pronounced as English, Russian as Russian, and so on — but everyone switched to writing in 1337 Speak.   This led to some superficial differences in culture and naming conventions. For example, a nationally known and accepted "Tri-Vee" network in the 1337 Speak version of the United States of America was the "\/\/751\/\/79 |V3\/\/5 |V37\/\/02X" (WYSIWYG News Network). Technomancers became, while not exactly common, a known phenomenon, and the occasional Literomancers also appeared, though they were perhaps even more rare.   Also some time in the 1960s, people in the New Age Movement began to write what they described as "channeled messages" that became known as the Voidborn Prophecies. These were related to other prophecies and a child's nursery rhyme that had been around since at least the 1700s, When Fire Speaks of Trauma. A small group known as the Deadworld Movement, regarded by most of the world as harmless lunatics, began to prepare to find ways to escape the 1337 Speak Reality, believing that their world was soon to be destroyed.   Following Tempest Kwake's arrival in the 1337 Speak Reality as a young teen, Grace Miller, now known as "Mama Grace", who adopted Tempest as their foster mother, became a leading voice and advocate in the "Deadworlder" Movement. She began to gather and prepare as many people as she could for the coming disaster. Eventually, roughly a million people joined her movement, which became known as Operation GTFO .   In early 2023 (Tomeverse date,) Prinx Tempest learned that the 1337 Speak Reality was soon to be destroyed by The Overflow in a process known as Reality Recycling. Since they had family ties to that reality, and their husband, Buddha Kwake, Duke Sacramento, had originated there, they begged their sister Queen Sable Aradia to help them evacuate as many people as they could, including their family and the Deadworlder Movement. The Bunny Queen agreed to assist, and rallied the Tome Knights to the cause. Most of the Literomantic Great Houses made considerable efforts and allocated significant resources to assist as well. This effort to evacuate the1337 Speak Reality was known in the Tomeverse as The Great Migration.   Ultimately, nearly 2.5 million people were successfully evacuated from the 1337 Speak Reality, including nearly 1 million children who were accepted at the last minute. This effort resulted in Tomeverse casualties as well, including 30 members of the Princess Rowean's Royal Light Infantry (18 injured, 12 dead, three of whom were members of the elite March Hares platoon,) the loss of Prinx Tempest, and the near-death and months-long recovery of the Mother of Bunnies herself.   All Protectorates have programs to help 1337 Speak refugees integrate into present society. The 1337 Speak Archive Project currently seeks to not only document as much as they can of 1337 Speak cultures, art, and history, but they hope to be able to share some of their reality's advances, especially in medical and biological technologies, with this one.
